Week 5 - David Alvarez

David Alvarez makes, what I can only describe as, Extreme Mosaics. Embedded are the 3 videos posted through his youtube account. Not only are the finished pieces worthy of note, but the arduous processes which he must go through to work out and create the art and the documented time-lapse videos are also pretty intriguing and impressive.

The first video posted was this playing card mosaic of a famous 60's guitarist (watch to find out who) and took 3 days to put togther with 8,568 card from 168 decks. It spans 22 feet across and is 25 feet tall.

Next is his most viewed video so far, the Dice mosaic. Using over 14,000 dices (die...?), 2 portraits are created.

And finally, the rubiks cube mosaic of Heath Ledger's Joker. Created with 336 rubik's cubes.

  1. Those are class, who would have thought that a rubiks cube could be art! I agree with you, the time and effort putting into planning each piece must have been incredible. I wonder did he have some sort of software to help him plan where to put each card/piece etc.
